Welcome to our first Reels Fives
pre-launch movie rankings. After conducting research our Reel Fives team
have found 163 published zombie movie rankings. For each list we have
taken the five zombie movies they ranked as their top five zombie
movies. The 163 zombie movie rankings lists are included at the bottom
of this post. Reel Fives' zombie movie rankings are based on the top
movies through this aggregation.
The top five movies are listed below in the order they are ranked. Romero films dominate this list, as one would anticipate, with Night of the living dead (1968) in first place and the original Dawn of the Dead (1978) in second place. No movie unanimously appeared in the top five lists of all of our sources. In fact Zombieland(2009) was only included in one third of zombie rankings lists and even Night of the living dead, the defining film of the modern zombie movie genre, was only included in 80 about two thirds. Zombie classics are not getting much in terms of strong ranking placements- we will cover the classic zombie movie later this week. Surprisingly, as influential as Return of the Living Dead (1985) was, this esteemed zombie movie did not make the top 5 zombie movies of all time list. However, 28 Days Later, a zombie movie that follows the O'bannon zombie archetype makes it to number four and included in half the top fives of our sources. This list also shows the versatility of the zombie movie genre, as two of the top five zombie movies are zombie comedies (zomcoms) with Shaun of the Dead (2004) at number three and Zombieland (2009) and number five. We will be releasing our rankings for zombie movie sub-genres zombie films including the top five comedy movies (zomcoms), top five classic zombie movies, top five Romero zombie movies, and finally our full list of all the movies that made it into top five ranked.
